OBITUARY - JUDY GRIFFITHS
The Dales Council Cricket League is saddened to note the death of Judy Griffiths who passed away on 29 October 2001 just two days after attending the League Dinner that she for many years organised. Judy leaves her husband Graham a Vice-President of the League, and family Neil and Val, Mandy and Nigel, Dawn and Christopher, and grandchildren Hannah, Jack and Joshua. The Funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 6 at Pudsey Parish Church and was attended by many members past and present of the Dales Council Cricket League.

There will be a minute silence in memory of Judy at the League's Annual General Meeting to be held at her much loved club, Pudsey St. Lawrence on 16 November 2001 at 7.45 pm.

Umpires Refresher Course

The Dales Council Umpire's Association are holding a Refresher Course at Pudsey St. Lawrence Cricket Club commencing 7 February 2001. Any players or club members considering retirement are particularly welcome. Full details can be obtained on the Umpire's Association web page.

League Dinner 

The Annual Dales Council Cricket League Dinner and Presentation Night will take place at the Allerton Hotel, Nursery Lane, Alwoodley on 27th October 2001 at 7.00pm. Tickets cost £18.00 and can be obtained from Graeme & Judy Griffiths Telephone (0113) 257 4829. All monies to be received by the latest 12th October 2001.

League's 50th Anniversary

To celebrate the Dales Council Cricket League's 50th year in 2006, a book chronicling the history of the league is in the process of being written by former Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Barry Foster. Barry who still plays regularly for Crompark, is in the process of researching the history from the first games held on Saturday 28 March 1956 when K.Wilkinson (Pool Paper Mills) and H.Grice (English Electric) both took hat-tricks.

Member clubs are invited to submit a history of their club (between 200 & 300 words) for inclusion within the publication. Barry will reserve the right to edit any submissions. Histories can be given to any member of the League Committee, to Barry directly (Barry Foster, 5 Green Acre Close, Baildon, Shipley, BD17 6JD) or by emailing them to the webmaster.

Hawksworth C.C. are now playing their home games at Arthington C.C. with the following conditions in respect of the continuing Foot and Mouth Epidemic:
* All Cars to be parked in the Church car park.
* Access to the ground to be by the small gate to the side of Church View.
* Disinfectant mats are to be used.
* Any balls hit out of the ground to be retrieved by a fielder who must first walk over disinfectant mats provided on the boundary.
* No dogs allowed in the ground.

The draws for the Leeds Area Cricket Council Cup has been made with us been drawn away against the Wetherby League. Date and Venue to be arranged.

The Dales Council Cricket League has been invited to compete for the Yorkshire Cricket Leagues Cup Competition and have been drawn away to the Halifax League. Date and venue to be agreed.

LEAGUE RECORD:
Rob Guthrie (125*) and Mark Lone (100) of Meanwood have broken the record first XI first wicket stand of 225 held since 1981 by G.Baines & P.O'Brien of Scalebor Park. The new record stand of 233 was scored against Crompark in the A Division. Rob's unbeaten knock was the highest individual score posted in the region during the bank holiday weekend.

Farsley Celtic have announced that for the remainder of the season, they will play all their home games at Bradford University's Woodhall Ground at Thornbury.

OBITUARY:
The Dales Council Cricket League are saddened to announce the death of popular umpire Arthur Thomas who passed away on 3 April 2001. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 11, at Rawdon Crematorium commencing 1.30 p.m. Our thoughts are with his family.

FOOT AND MOUTH UPDATE:
As far as the league is aware only 1 club is affected by the outbreak. Hawksworth Cricket Club who play at Arthington cannot access the ground. Further details and a solution will be revealed at the pre-season meeting due to be held at 7.45 pm on 12 April 2001 at Pudsey Congs' Britannia Ground.

Former Yorkshire and England slow bowler Geoff Cope is the new president of the Dales Council Cricket League. He takes over from Les Thompson who is stepping down after ten years as both president and chairman. League Treasurer Dave Smith is taking on the chairman's role. Geoff played his first competitive cricket in the Dales Council Cricket League as an 11 year old with Leeds Zingari at the Ives Sports Ground at Guiseley. He went on to play 3 full tests and 2 one day internationals for England and taking 3-102 on his debut. We wish him luck in his new role.

Obituary:
It is with regret to announce the death of John Gibson. John was a Vice-President of the League since 1993 and was secretary of former club Leeds Civil Service until 1989. A minutes silence was held at the League SGM on 25 January 2001.

Obituary:
A minutes silence was also held as a mark of respect for former Hawksworth player Gordon Hay. An opening batsman and excellent fielder for his club who represented the club for 15 seasons. A trophy dedicated to his memory will be presented to the league by Hawksworth C.C. to be awarded annually.

Castlehill have removed their second team from the D Division and requested relegation of their first XI to the B Division. Their A Division place will be taken by Shipley Providence who finished third in the B Division in 2000. Ramgarhia Sikh have replaced Castlehill in the D Division by entering a new second XI. 

The 2001 season will commence on Saturday 21 April and will run until Saturday 8 September 2001.

The draws for the Pool Paper Mills Cup and the Cawthorne Cup have now been made. The draw in full can be found here. The tie of the round pairs A Division sides Rodley & Meanwood the fourth season in five that they will have met in the PPM cup, two of the meeting being finals.
