League News - 18 November 2002

  • Garforth (formerly Skeltons Wood C.C.) have formally exercised their resignation and left the league. The Dales Council Cricket League wish them luck in the Leeds/West Riding Cricket League.

  • Whitehall have entered a Second XI into the D Division for the 2003 Season.

  • Kirkstall Educational have entered a side into the league for the 2003 Season.

  • New rule changes effective next season can be found here.

  • Whitehall have won the Umpires' Association Sportsmanship Trophy for 2002.

  • Old Modernians 'B' have been awarded the Les Bulmer Trophy (Sportsmanship) for 2002.

  • Simon Clapham (Old Modernians) has won the John Morgan's Young Cricketer of the Year Award for 2002.

  • Geoff Tarbutt has won the John Morgan's Umpires Award for 2002.

League News - 10 September 2002
The 2002 Season has now drawn to a close. The Divisional Winners are:
A Division:  New Wortley - retaining the title for their second championship trophy.
B Division:  Crompark - The fifth time they have won this division, the last time in 1992.
C Division:  Whitehall - Their second divisional award, they won the B Division 6 seasons ago.
D Division:  Crompark 'B' - After winning this award in 2000 they were relegated the very next season, can they do better next year?
Pool Paper Mills Cup:  Meanwood - Their fifth cup win equals the record five cup wins held by Bramley Beacon Sports and their earlier guises.
Cawthorne Cup:  Baildon Meths 'B' - Their first trophy in the Dales Council Cricket League.

Congratulations to all the successful clubs.

League News - 2 September 2002

  • Alterations to the League Handbook need to be forwarded to Alan Wardle before Christmas 2002.
  • Clubs are reminded that a 300 word history of their clubs needs to be sent to Barry Foster or Alan Wardle for inclusion in the book detailing the first 50 years of the Dales Council Cricket League.
  • Clubs are reminded that Averages need to be submitted to Steve Raistrick by 18th September at the latest.
  • Rodley Cricket Club have requested a Certificate of Clearance to allow them to begin negotiating with a view to joining a different league.

League Announcement - 10 July 2002
The final of the Cawthorne Cup will be held at Pudsey St. Lawrence's Tofts Road ground as New Farnley's ground is unavailable due a conflicting cup competition. The match between Crompark and Baildon Meths 'B' will be held on Sunday 14 July 2002 starting at 1.30 pm.

The League is taking on the Nidderdale Cricket League on Tuesday 25 June 2002 at Harrogate St. George's County Ground in a 20 over match starting at 6.30. The team selected is:

League Announcement - 13 June 2002
This Saturday's fixtures which clash with the England v Denmark game in the 2002 World Cup may be delayed with League approval. Both clubs must agree and the Umpires & Steve Raistrick must be informed. Should the match be delayed then Rule 24(b) applies and Rule 25 does not. If both clubs do not agree to a revised start time then Rules 24 and 17 apply.

Rule 24(b):
....overs shall de deducted at the rate of 20 for each hour’s time lost, but for 15 minutes in each innings no overs shall be lost. In the event of a delayed start because of weather or light conditions overs lost shall be divided equally between the teams.
Rule 25:
If any club is not ready to commence play at the allotted time the offending club shall be fined £10. Umpires shall report all late starts on the scoresheet giving the starting time and the name of the offending club.
Rule 24:
All matches shall commence at 2.00pm and 6.30pm for evening matches, and not later than 3.45pm. Any matches played in April or the last two Saturdays or Sundays in August onwards shall begin at 1.30pm and not later than 3.15pm, with a tea interval of 20 minutes between the innings, except where Rule 26 applies.
Rule 17:
In the event of any Club failing to fulfil a fixture or not fielding a minimum of seven players by 30 minutes after the scheduled start, the match shall be declared void. The offending Club will forfeit the points and these will be awarded to the non-offending Club. The offending Club shall be fined £25 for non-fulfilment of the fixture.

League News - 22 April 2002
All players under 18 now must wear helmets whilst batting or fielding close to the bat. Under 18 wicket keepers must also wear helmets whilst stood up to the crease.
Bankfoot Cricket Club have invited any lady/girl cricketers to training nets sanctioned by the Yorkshire Cricket Association. Any clubs with interested members should pass contact details to Alan Wardle, Secretary, Dales Council Cricket League.
The two junior players selected to represent the League at the annual Scarborough Junior Cricket Training Session are Steven Clapham (Old Modernians) and Richard Crampton (Farnley Hill).

League News - 25 March 2002
Ramgarhia Sikh Cricket Club have formally been renamed to Leeds Sikh Cricket Club.
Farsley Celtic Cricket Club have renamed themselves Bramley Sports Beacon Cricket Club. NB This club bears no relation to former Dales Council members Bramley Sports winners of various trophies from 1959 to 1984 who became Rodley Cricket Club.
Skelton Woods Cricket Club have merged with Leeds/West Riding Cricket League members Garforth Cricket Club and will play all their games under the new name and at Station Road, Garforth.
Pudsey St. Lawrence Cricket Club now play their home games at Priesthorpe School, Pudsey.
Mount Pleasant have formally left the Dales Council Cricket League and have merged with Leeds/West Riding Cricket League members Howden Clough.
South Parade Baptists Cricket Club have joined the C Division of the Dales Council Cricket League. They play their home games at Bedquilts, Adel and were a friendly playing side established in 1946.
