Bramley Sports Beacon C.C. and Farsley C.C. have both left the League with immediate effect. Bramley, formerly Farsley Celtic C.C. have been members since 1998, having previously involved from 1981-1987 and have disbanded. They were League and Cup winners in their first spell and were originally formed after the disbanding of the very successful Smiths Sports C.C. Farsley C.C. have folded their third XI having been members since 1997.New Wortley, Old Modernians and Whitehall have all removed their Second XI's.

The League has accepted the applications of two new clubs however, Burley Park C.C. & Halifax Direct C.C. Burley Park's members predominantly played last season for Whitehall and they will take over the Woodhall Sports Ground vacated by the demise of Bramley Sports Beacon. Halifax Direct were representing Old Modernians C.C. in 2003 and continue the links by sharing their Bedquilts ground. Shipley Providence have added a Second XI to the League after an arrangement with Saltaire C.C.

Keith Duckett and wife Gillian. Courtesy of Crompark C.C.

The Dales Council Cricket League is saddened to learn of the untimely death of Crompark stalwart Keith Duckett who passed away on Thursday, 9th October 2003 aged 59.

Keith's passion for Cricket was unsurpassed and even when very ill played in the relegation decider against Pudsey Congs in the last game of the season. In 2002 Keith led Crompark's Second XI to the D Division Championship, promotion to the C Division and the final of the Cawthorne Cup.

An accomplished sportsman, Keith represented Yorkshire Colts at Rugby Union, before signing for Leeds ARFLC., before moving to Batley ARFLC, where he played semi-professional Rugby League.

Keith leaves Gillian and 2 sons, Warren and Ryan. The Funeral will be held at St. Paul's Parish Church, Esholt on Friday 17th October at 1.00 p.m.

The Dales Council Cricket League's Representative side defeated the Bradford Mutual Sunday School League in the Final of the Bradford Area Cricket Council Knockout Cup on Sunday. Played at Cambing Cricket Club in Idle, The home league posted a reasonable 176-9 with Mark Allinson (Rodley) the pick of the bowlers with 3-28. In reply the young Dales side fielding a number of debutants slipped to 90-5 before a 6th wicket partnership of 84 between Stuart Dobson (Meanwood) and Steve Bradbury (Rodley) decided the event.

Stuart Dobson (62 not out) and Harry Seehra (Leeds Sikh) 23 provided the fireworks with 8 sixes between them but it was the battling 30 put together by young Ross Todd of Baildon Meths that laid the platform for the win. He glued the earlier part of the innings together, facing some hostile bowling on a lively wicket in difficult conditions. Full scorecard can be found here.

Congratulations to all involved.

7 August 2003

Meanwood opening bowler Stuart Dobson wrote his name in the record books on Saturday by recording the best bowling figures in the 47 year history of the Dales Council Cricket League. His all ten feat (9 bowled & 1 caught) for just 4 runs beats the previous best of 10-10 by J.Wilks of Sandmoor v Cookridge in 1988.

The same Meanwood side retained the Pool Paper Mills Cup the following day at Pudsey Congs' Britannia Ground. They recorded a 9 wicket win over Crompark, who despite being original members of the league, were enjoying their first senior final. Meanwood have now won the Pool Paper Mills Cup 6 times.

New Farnley's New Zealand import has smashed his way into the record books by amassing a new A Division highest individual score of 208. His score against struggling Shipley Providence beat the previous highest of 206* scored by Rodley's former wicket keeper/batsman Neil Kettle against New Wortley in 2000. The double hundred was the fourth in the history of the Dales Council Cricket League. Nick also shared in a new record 2nd Wicket Stand of 237 beating the previous highest of 227 shared by Dave Pearce & Tony Metcalfe for Smiths Sports against Farnley Estate in 1977.

The League's representative side narrowly failed to beat the Nidderdale League at Farsley on Sunday 15 June. Batting second they lost by just 6 runs chasing the 233 required for victory. Opener Gary Walton (Meanwood) batted supremely before holing out for 83 and Ikthar Mahmood (Baildon Meths) hit a whirlwind 60 to keep us in the running.
