OBITUARY
The death occurred on 16th May 1999 of Cyril Chapman of Yeadon, the well known and well respected official of Rodley Cricket Club and an umpire in the Dales Council Cricket League.
Cyril attended the inaugural meeting of the league as Hon. Secretary of Ross Mills Cricket Club, which led to the league's formation for the 1956 season. When Ross Mills C.C. folded at the end of the 1960 season, Cyril joined Bramley Sports Cricket Club (now Rodley Cricket Club).
He served Rodley as a player, groundsman and secretary for 15 years and was Hon. Treasurer for the last 15 years until his illness compelled him to hand over the reins a few weeks ago.
On retiring as a player in the mid 1970's he turned to umpiring and was President of the Dales Council Umpires Association and a life member. He was awarded the 'John Morgan Umpires Award' in 1993. He was a Vice-President and life member of the Dales Council Cricket League.
A minute's silence was held at all matches last weekend. Cyril leaves a wife (Rita), a daughter (Andrea) and grandchildren Matthew and Tamasin. The funeral was held at Rawdon Crematorium on Monday 24th May 1999.

The draw for the Bradford Area Cricket Council League Cup has seen us paired at home with the Bradford Central Cricket League with a venue and date to be agreed. In a repeat of last years first round game, we hope to gain revenge for that defeat.
The under 17's will play the Bradford Mutual Sunday School League at home, again with date and venue to be arranged.

The Dales Council Cricket League meeting on 15/4/1999 held a one minute silence in memory of former player Michael Holmes. Michael played in the 1970's for New Farnley C.C. before moving to Tong C.C. in the 1980's. A member of a good cricketing family where 3 generations have played in our league, he still shares the league record 7th wicket stand with S.Burnhill of 148 against Otley in 1989. Our thoughts are with his family.
